AI assistants (MCP and llms.txt)

Let an assistant print: the MCP server

@jodaprint/mcp is a Model Context Protocol server. Claude, Cursor, VS Code and other MCP apps can then list your printers, print receipts, labels and documents, and follow jobs:

"Print today's sales report on the office printer." "Why did the receipt at the Delmas store fail? Reprint it."

  1. Dashboard → Developers → API keys → Create key. Start with a test key (jp_test_…): it prints to the sandbox. The key's scopes limit what the assistant can do (jobs:write to print).
  2. Add the server to the app. For Claude Desktop, in claude_desktop_config.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"jodaprint": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "@jodaprint/mcp"],
"env": { "JODAPRINT_API_KEY": "jp_test_…" }
}
}
}

With Claude Code: claude mcp add jodaprint --env JODAPRINT_API_KEY=jp_test_… -- npx -y @jodaprint/mcp.

The server provides:

  • tools: list_devices, list_printers, print, print_template, preview_receipt, get_job, list_jobs, cancel_job, reprint_job, list_templates and get_template;
  • a receipt-format guide as a resource.

To limit it:

  • JODAPRINT_READ_ONLY=true removes the printing tools.
  • JODAPRINT_ALLOWED_DEVICES and JODAPRINT_ALLOWED_PRINTERS limit where it may print.

Help coding assistants: llms.txt

The docs site publishes plain-text versions for AI tools (llmstxt.org):

  • /llms.txt: an index of every page with a one-line summary;
  • /llms-full.txt: all the English docs in one file, so an assistant can read it into its context;
  • /llms/<page>.md: each page as Markdown;
  • /openapi.json: the REST API description.

The npm packages @jodaprint/sdk and @jodaprint/node also include an AGENTS.md with the rules and patterns an assistant needs to write a correct integration: never put keys in the browser, choose printers by alias, use idempotency keys.
