Install the agent

Install the agent on every computer or Android device that has a printer. Download the installer from Dashboard → Downloads. Every file has a .sha256 checksum next to it.

The installer also creates a local certificate authority for this machine only, and trusts it, so that web pages can reach the agent over wss://localhost. No certificate or private key is shared between machines.

Windows​

Windows 10 and 11, x64 or Arm.

  • By hand: run JodaPrint-Setup-en.exe (also -fr and -ht) and follow the steps.

  • Silently: use the MSI. The activation code is optional; you can also activate later.

The agent runs as the Windows service JodaPrint, and a tray icon appears at logon. Files go to C:\Program Files\JodaPrint, data (queue, logs, device key) to C:\ProgramData\JodaPrint.

macOS​

macOS 13 or later, Apple silicon or Intel. Double-click JodaPrint.pkg, or:

sudo installer -pkg JodaPrint.pkg -target /

The agent runs as the LaunchDaemon io.jodaprint.agent, and the JodaPrint icon appears in the menu bar. The command line tool is linked as /usr/local/bin/jodaprint-agent.

Linux​

Debian and Ubuntu (.deb), Fedora and RHEL (.rpm), amd64 and arm64:

The agent runs as the systemd service jodaprint-agent (as root, like CUPS backends, so it can open USB and serial printers). The tray needs a desktop with StatusNotifier support; on GNOME, install the AppIndicator extension.

Android​

Android 7.0 (API 24) or later: phones, tablets and Android POS terminals (Sunmi, PAX, iMin, Telpo).

  1. Install the JodaPrint app from your device store, or the APK from Dashboard → Downloads. For an APK, Android asks you once to allow "Install unknown apps".
  2. Open JodaPrint. Allow notifications and, when asked, the exemption from battery optimization. The agent runs as a foreground service with a permanent notification.
  3. Activate with the code, or scan the QR code shown in the dashboard.

Android browsers do not trust local certificates, so web apps print through the WebView shell instead of wss://localhost.

Check the installation​

jodaprint-agent status

It shows whether the service runs, whether it is activated, and the printers it found. On Windows, run it from an administrator prompt in C:\Program Files\JodaPrint.
