Activate the agent
Activation connects an agent to your organization. The agent then receives its configuration (allowed origins, signing keys, printer aliases) and appears in the dashboard.
1. Create an activation code
Dashboard → Devices → Add device. Choose:
- Uses: how many devices can use this code (1 for one computer, up to 1 000 for a fleet).
- Expires in: up to 30 days.
- Group: the device group the devices join. Groups carry configuration; see Multi-branch setup.
The dashboard shows the code (for example KJ74-PX9Q) and a QR code for Android.
2. Enter the code
Any of these works:
-
Tray or menu bar icon → Activate…, then paste the code.
-
Command line (administrator or root):
jodaprint-agent activate KJ74-PX9Q -
At install time: the MSI property
ACTIVATION_CODE, the macOS configuration profile keyActivationCode, or the Linux variableJODAPRINT_ACTIVATION_CODE. See Silent deployment. -
Android: type the code or scan the QR code on the first screen.
At activation the agent creates its own Ed25519 device key. The private key never leaves the machine; the cloud only stores the public key.
3. Check
Within a minute the device shows online under Dashboard → Devices, with its printers under Printers. Click Test print on a printer to print a sample receipt through the cloud.
Without the cloud
An agent that is not activated still answers agent.info, but refuses print requests with NOT_ACTIVATED. To use the agent without the JodaPrint cloud at all, see Standalone mode.
Deactivate
Dashboard → Devices → device → Deactivate frees the licence slot. The agent returns to the not-activated state the next time it connects.
